Caitlin Clark deserves better compensation.
That’s the stance of her agent, Erin Kane, who, in an interview with ESPN, made striking claims about WNBA contracts and player earnings.
Clark is heading into her second season with the Indiana Fever after an outstanding rookie year, where she shattered the assists record and earned Rookie of the Year honors.
Alongside other top rookies, Clark played a key role in making last season the most-watched WNBA regular season in 24 years and the highest-attended in two decades.
A total of 31 WNBA games averaged over one million viewers last season, with Clark featured in 22 of them. Nearly every game she played was broadcast nationally.
Her team, the Indiana Fever, experienced a staggering 320% rise in attendance, leading the league with an average of 17,000 fans per game.
Given Clark’s unprecedented influence on women’s basketball and sports as a whole, her agent is calling for significantly higher salaries for Clark and other WNBA stars.
“Will Caitlin Clark ever be paid by the WNBA what she’s truly worth to the league? I don’t think that’s possible,” Kane stated.
“She’s part of a larger player body, and they all deserve higher pay. She should be acknowledged for her contributions and the economic impact she has brought to the league. It’s that simple.”
Clark appeared to support her agent’s remarks, as she was seen liking ESPNW’s Instagram post featuring Kane’s statement.
